RIVIERA MAYA

The Riviera Maya, or Mayan Riviera, is a 120 km long coastal strip that starts in Puerto Morelos and ends in Punta Allen, including magical places in between like Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum.

Location

Located on the eastern tip of the Yucatan peninsula, the Riviera Maya stretches from Puerto Morelos, 32 kilometers south of Cancun International Airport, to the picturesque fisherman village of Punta Allen, within the Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka'an.

Airports
Cancun: The Cancun International Airport operates daily with national and international arrivals and departures.

Playa Del Carmen: At the center of the Mayan Riviera, located an hour away from the Cancun International Airport. Playa also has a runway for small craft and short flights.

Cozumel: Direct flights from Cancun and other major cities around the world arrive at Cozumel’s International Airport.

Grand Costa Maya: This national airport is located in Chetumal, the state capital.

Average temperature: 26°C (79°F).
In the summer (April-October) the maximum high is 36°C (97°F). In the winter (November March) temperatures are as low as 18°C (64°F).

Cancun and the Mayan Riviera are sunny 253 days each year.

Languages
The official language is Spanish. In the tourism industry, English, French, Italian and German are also spoken. Part of the local indigenous population still speaks Mayan.

Clothing
Lightweight and casual. In winter, a sweater may be necessary. Some exclusive restaurants in the Maya Riviera require semi-formal attire. To visit some archaeological sites or take a jungle tour, bring comfortable shoes, a hat or cap, sunglasses, biodegradable mosquito repellent and biodegradable sun block.
