Location

The cosmopolitan village of Playa del Carmen is only 40 minutes south of Cancun and facing the island of Cozumel. Its perfect location, right in the middle of the Riviera Maya, makes it a great place to stay since you will be within a short distance of all the main cities and villages, Mayan archaological sites and tourist attractions.

The Fifth Avenue in Playa del Carmen is the heart of the town. Located just 2 blocks from the beach, this cobble stoned pedestrian street is where the most trendy bars, restaurants and boutiques are located. This effervescent street is constantly growing and changing so you can walk up and down the avenue and always find something new.

Another of its main attractions are its wonderful white sand beaches and quiet Caribbean Sea, the favorite spot for the sun lovers from around the world. Lounge bars, restaurants and small hotels facing this beautiful scenery are the perfect place to enjoy some refreshments and meet beautiful people.

Playa's night scene is one of a kind, people go from one place to the other on the 5th avenue or the beach where they can enjoy drinks, music, high end clubs, live entertainment, fire shows, Djs and endless fun in the best places to see and be seen.

Playa del Carmen also offers an array of tour possibilities, you can take a ferry and go visit Cozumel Island, go diving the beautiful barrier reef and crystal clear cenotes (sink holes), visit the nearby cities of Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum or take a tour to Xcaret or Xel-Ha.

Weather
Playa del Carmen enjoys a semitropical weather with and average annual temperature of 26°c to 35°c during summer time.

Language
The official language is Spanish and some of the local native people speak Maya, but English is widely spoken and in some of Playa's venues also Italian, French, German or Dutch are spoken.

Ferry Schedules
Playa-Cozumel: Every hour from: 5:00 hrs to 23:00 hrs
Cozumel-Playa: Every hour from: 6:00 hrs to 23: 00 hrs

Time Zone
Six hours behind Greenwich time. Summer Time starts first Sunday of April and ends the last Sunday of October.

Transportation
Buses: There are buses going from Playa del Carmen to Cancun every 15 minutes. For other locations check the schedules directly at the bus terminal.

Taxis: In town distances go from around 1.5 usd to 2 usd. For further distances be sure to find out the price before you get in the taxi.

Vans: You can travel anywhere between Playa del Carmen and Tulum in this collective 8 passenger taxis for around 2usd. The Vans stations is located in Calle 2 between the 15th and 20th ave.
