MAYAN ARCHITECTURE
Feel the energy of the most important ceremonial centers of the ancient Mayans, civilization that extended over Yucatan, Campeche, and Quintana Roo; as well as part of Guatemala, Honduras and Belize.
Maya constructions were made basically of wood and stone, they built all type of constructions as: rectangular palaces, temples, stelae, ball games courts, fortresses and steam baths (Temascales). Among them you can admire the splendor of the steps pyramids of stone.
Take a 5 day journey to explore the most amazing sites, by the sea or in the middle of the jungle, and witness the magnificent legacy of the Mayan architecture!
Day 1: Cancun- Tulum-Kohunlich-Chicanna (474 km)- Pick-up at your Cancun resort's lobby and transportation and tour of the archaeological zone of Tulum, a spectacular Mayan site built on the coast of the Mexican Caribbean. Tulum is completely fortified on the inland side with a stone wall, and on the other side by the beautiful sea. It is considered as one of the most complete cities inhabited by the Mayan people, when the Mayan culture collapsed around the year 1600 A.D.
- Transportation and tour of the archaeological zone of Kohunlich. Admire beautiful stucco structures, fantastic stone god masks and ball play court. Kohunlich’s intriguing atmosphere has many treasures to unfold: like the must do visit to the Temple of the masks, the 27 steps and its symbolic and cosmic elements.
- Transportation to the Chicanna archaeological zone in Campeche. This site is shaped by numerous structures, modeled figures of stucco as rich decoration, and beautiful temples of block.
- Overnight stay in Chicanna.
 Day 2: Chicanna - Calakmul – Palenque (360 km)- Transportation and tour of the Calakmul Biosphere reserve and ruins, one of the most important areas of the State of Campeche. Admire the impressive biodiversity and the great ancient City of Calakmul. (A camera is a must for this tour stop). Let the splendor of its temples and palaces take your breath away. Cakalmul is compared in beauty to the palaces of Tikal.
- Transportation, arrival and overnight in Palenque city.
 Day 3: Day 3: Palenque-Campeche (354.5 km)- Tour the archaeological zone of Palenque, a captivating Mayan site among the jungle of the State of Chiapas. Famous for the Tomb of Pakal, designed specifically for his death, its friezes and writings. Explore the great pyramids and temples of what feels like paradise on earth.
- Transportation, arrival and overnight at the city of Campeche. Enchanted city of pirates, declared world heritage site by UNESCO. Campeche is a fortified city with a large walled colonial center, cobblestone streets and pastel hues.
 Day 4: Campeche-Edzna-Uxmal-Merida (284 km)- Transportation and tour of the archaeological zone of Edzna in Campeche. Edzna is one of the most stimulating Mayan sites because of the technological developments that emerged here, its impressive buildings and acoustic effects.
- Transportation and tour of Uxmal a strikingly beautiful ruined Mayan city known for its colorful decoration. Bring your camera for this is a most staggering site to behold and record.
- Transportation and overnight in Merida City, the colonial capital of the State of Yucatan.
 Day 5: Merida- Chichen Itza-Cancun (320 km)- Transportation and tour of one of the new “Seven Wonders of the Modern World”: Chichen Itza. A guided visit in Chichen Itza will show you the main highlights like: El Castillo, The Temple of the Warriors, The Observatory, The Nunnery and The Ball Court unparalleled structures full of history, architectural genius and astronomical knowledge.
